FAQ and Directions

What are UV Gels and How do they work?

UV Gels are a type of artificial nails. Women & Men (Guitar Players)  may have them applied to their fingernails as an alternative to Acrylic nails if they want their nails to look longer, more even, and stronger. UV gel nails are made of a special odorless gel that is applied to a person’s regular nail and then cured with Ultraviolet Light (UV) Lamp.

Most people have UV gel nails applied in a nail Salon. To apply UV gel nails, the manicurist applies a gel that consists of a combination of polymers and monomers to a person’s natural nail.  Then the nail is  placed nail under an ultraviolet light for curing. The curing process usually takes a couple of minutes. When the curing process is done, the nails can be left natural,  painted with standard Nail Polish or decorated.

Can I apply UV Gels myself?

Yes, if you can apply Nail Polish you can easily apply UV Gels. The only additional step is to place your nails under the UV Light to cure the Gel

How often should I replace the bulb in my bonding lamp?

Every 12 – 18 months or 100 Hrs of use

How long should my gels last?

Typically, if you reapply  the gels every two weeks, they should last about a year (if stored in a  cool dry cupboard).

How many coats of the sculpting gel should I apply?

Generally it is better to apply 2-3 thin coats of sculpting gel rather than 1 thicker coat.

What is the best way to remove Lightbox gels?

Because the gel adheres so tightly to your natural nail, the best way to remove it is by filing.  Our “Large files” are the best we’ve seen to remove gel.  They have a 180 grit on one side and 100 grit on the other.  Use the course side of the file first, then use the finer grit side of the file.  Finish the filing process with a buffer block.  The buffer block allows you to file any uneven places in the gel and properly prepares your nails for a new coat of gel.  Treat yourself to a new file every time you do a fill.  This will save you much valuable time.

I have an old LUME timer and need to know what kind of battery goes in it?

Good for you, those Lume timers are very rare. Unfortunately I don’t have one to take apart to check. As I remember it is a Watch battery so a local Walmart or Target store should have one.

I have an old Lume UV light, light mint green color body. I don’t know the watts of the original bulb, but would like to replace it with a 36W bulb to use CND gel polishes.
Is that possible? The body shows no model # or bulb info. My mom owns a salon and
used it, but not much. Or should I just buy a new one? Thank you, Nancy

The Lume lamp uses a single 6 Watt bulb. I am unaware of a 36 Watt bulb that will fit.
Sometimes Lamps may use multiple bulbs to increase the wattage. The Lume 6W Lamp would cure
CND Shellac UV Nail Gels, it would just take a little longer. All UV Bulbs need replacing at some
time we recommend after 100 hrs of use (max). They will still turn On, but loose UV Strength.
